The Southern Stampede's two famous Ice Black forwards, Braden Lee and Brett Speirs, had scored three successive ice hockey goals each during two wins against the Dunedin Thunder in the first round of New Zealand Ice all star hockey season in Dunedin in the weekend. The most spectacular ice hockey news is Runner-up in last year's final, the Queenstown-based team came to Dunedin as usual favourite and won 7-4 and 6-2. While the scorelines were flattering, the Stampede did not have everything its own way. Game two yesterday afternoon started as a tight affair until Speirs broke the deadlock for the Stampede after 11 minutes. 30 seconds afterwards, Jo Bjorkman doubled the lead as the Thunder looked vulnerable to the strong Stampede attack. During the Stampede's first power play, the Thunder's French import, Quentin Pepy, broke free to set up Simon Christos to score. A five-pass build-up in the attacking zone led to Damien Watson nailing the equalizer with 11 seconds remaining in the first period.
