The NHL Rookie of the Year
June 7th, 2010
Coming into this NHL season, Jimmy Howard, the nhl star of the Red Wings has immense chances of bringing home the Calder Trophy in the chase for NHL Rookie of the Year. The Calder Memorial Trophy is an annual award given "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League.
Indeed Howard's win will be regarded no less than a history as he claims to be the Red Wings' first "rookie of the year" winner since Roger Crozier in 1965. Moreover if Howard does win the award, it would be the first time since 1951 that goalies have won the title in back-to-back years, when Jack Gelineau and Terry Sawchuck took the honors. Columbus' Steve Mason won last year.
Ironically, the last three Red Wings to win the Calder trophy have all been goalies.
Meanwhile as the chase for the Calder Trophy continues, the NHL fans eagerly await the great event to be held on the 23rd of June at the award ceremony in Las Vegas.
